  • A new report by New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli showed that in 2023 women earned 87 cents on the dollar compared to men and would have had to work an extra 53 days in 2024 to match their earnings. The report also found that even with similar education and experience, women, especially in the legal field where they earned 68 cents on the dollar, made less—pointing to a need for policies like affordable childcare and paid leave.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • Congressman Pat Ryan invited USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins to visit the Hudson Valley Regional Food Bank in Montgomery to see how proposed $1 billion cuts would affect local food supplies. He warned the cuts may lead to two million fewer meals for residents — while Rollins dismissed the claims as 'fake news.'  1450 WKIP

  • Workers from Summit Health and Optum in Poughkeepsie have demanded better treatment due to issues with healthcare benefits, patient care and management practices—problems found in Congressman Pat Ryan’s inquiry that noted declining care quality and rising fees. The inquiry’s findings have been submitted to the Department of Justice, Health and Human Services and Federal Trade Commission as workers push for changes.  1450 WKIP
