  • Page and Petals in Wappingers Falls announced Monday its storefront at 2692 West Main St will close with its final day on May 24; the bookstore will continue online sales and host occasional pop-up events for the community.  Daily Voice

  • Local artist Jessica Jenkins uses painting as her voice and launched her online shop, Flappy Hands Creations, featuring paintings, handmade jewelry, clothes and teddy bears made from loved ones' clothing. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A World Atlas report finds the Hudson Valley is among the top five regions with rattlesnakes along the Atlantic Coast, especially near Hudson Highlands; DEC officials warn hikers that encounters will be most likely on local trails from late April to October.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Ruby-throated hummingbirds began arriving in New York on April 13 — sightings were reported on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley — and experts expect more will migrate north by mid-May from Mexico and Central America.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • Metro-North is working to repair broken elevators at Poughkeepsie Train Station that left disabled passengers stranded, with staff carrying wheelchairs up stairs (no timeline has been given), and similar issues have affected Peekskill.   • Dutchess County legislators advanced a resolution on April 13 to cap gas sales tax at $3 per gallon as rising pump prices burden drivers. The measure will take effect on June 1 after state approval (a step aimed at easing cost pressures).  Hudson Valley Post
