- ➤ Poughkeepsie police arrested Denise Gilpin, 50, for allegedly fatally stabbing her 78-year-old mother at her home at 2 Oak Crescent on Monday afternoon—she now faces a second-degree murder charge—and are continuing their investigation. Times Union
- ➤ A Poughkeepsie man, 31, was arrested on Wednesday, April 9 when undercover officers bought illegal drugs on Carroll Street—he now faces a serious drug charge and was set to appear in City Court on Thursday. Mid Hudson News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the New York State DEC confirmed changes to its endangered species list for the first time in 26 years—adding the Atlantic coast leopard frog and other species recognized under federal law. The update follows input from over 1,300 New Yorkers and starts a series of planned revisions. Hudson Valley Post
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The State of Connecticut approved a $20 billion merger that joins Nuvance Health and Northwell Health, including hospitals such as Poughkeepsie's Vassar Brothers Medical Center and facilities in Rhinebeck, Carmel and Danbury. Dr. John Murphy said the merger will improve care and protect patient facing jobs while allowing changes as the network shifts to more outpatient and home services. Mid Hudson News

- ➤ 15-year-old Eden Kruger from Hopewell Junction won her third straight national freestyle title in the Under-17 single moguls event at a Utah competition on March 21—she edged Murphy Jane Knight by earning 67.36 points, and she will compete at the Snowbird FIS Open starting April 19 to build on her success.
