  • 101.5 WPDH launches its April Fuels event by handing out free gas cards to listeners every Wednesday this month. Listen at 7 a.m. for secret pickup tips in the Hudson Valley (the live draw for a $500 prize is on April 29 at Foam and Wash on Route 9).  WPDH
  • HVARS in Poughkeepsie rescued Grace—a puppy mom found tied up outside—and her litter; one pup did not survive while the remaining puppies are thriving in foster care as Grace begins a careful refeeding process toward recovery.  WRRV

  • Ryan Law launched Freedom Fighters, a premium pretzel brand supporting veterans and first responders. His product is available at three spots at SUNY New Paltz and Crew Restaurant and Bar, and he will be featured at the Military Entrepreneurship Forum (today) after Fiserv committed to purchasing 300 bags.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Tuesday, Poughkeepsie's first Shake Shack opened at Hudson Heritage Plaza on Route 9. Customers lined up for tote bags + burgers as Marist cheerleaders attended the ribbon-cutting and $1 from every sandwich went to the Regional Food Bank; the restaurant is open from 10:30am to 11pm daily.  WRRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers found toxic chemicals, including arsenic and benzene, in over 33% of New York public water systems serving 750+ people, and some Hudson Valley counties now offer free water testing. Greene County has the highest rate of unresolved violations in the latest five-year EPA review.  Hudson Valley Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dutchess County lawmakers are proposing a cap on the gasoline and diesel sales tax to ease rising fuel prices amid the war in Iran. The proposal will be introduced at a Budget and Finance meeting on April 9 and could take effect on June 1 (if approved).  Mid Hudson News
  • State crews began nighttime construction on the Poughkeepsie approach of the Mid-Hudson Bridge Monday evening to replace deck sections, so drivers will see one lane open each direction and a temporary westbound shift on Friday, Apr. 3 for paving near the north curb, with work finishing next year.  WPDH
  • A Hudson Valley lawmaker introduced a bill to make tianeptine a controlled substance — often nicknamed 'gas station heroin' — to curb abuse and reduce health risks, state officials said. The proposal aims to tighten drug sales regulations and protect public safety.  Hudson Valley Post
