- ➤ Researchers found toxic chemicals, including arsenic and benzene, in over 33% of New York public water systems serving 750+ people, and some Hudson Valley counties now offer free water testing. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dutchess County lawmakers are proposing a cap on the gasoline and diesel sales tax to ease rising fuel prices amid the war in Iran. The proposal will be introduced at a Budget and Finance meeting on April 9 and could take effect on June 1 (if approved). Mid Hudson News
- ➤ State crews began nighttime construction on the Poughkeepsie approach of the Mid-Hudson Bridge Monday evening to replace deck sections, so drivers will see one lane open each direction and a temporary westbound shift on Friday, Apr. 3 for paving near the north curb, with work finishing next year. - ➤ A Hudson Valley lawmaker introduced a bill to make tianeptine a controlled substance — often nicknamed 'gas station heroin' — to curb abuse and reduce health risks, state officials said. The proposal aims to tighten drug sales regulations and protect public safety. Hudson Valley Post
