  • After rescuing a weakened dog and her struggling puppies from neglect, Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary in Poughkeepsie is providing emergency care & treatment today as Grace has begun refeeding while her puppies start to thrive in foster homes.  Hudson Valley Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Love Food recently named New York's Garbage Plate as the weirdest dish in America. The dish—a mix of meats, fries, macaroni salad, and baked beans drizzled with hot sauce, born from a college tradition—shows the quirky culinary heritage in Upstate diners.  Hudson Valley Post
  • John Krasinski announced A Quiet Place Part III, which will release July 30, 2027, featuring returning stars Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and others. No local studio has confirmed if the film will be shot in the Hudson Valley.  Hudson Valley Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Small campfires remain allowed during the spring burn ban, which runs from Mar. 16 through May 14; New York rules permit them if they stay under 3 feet high and 4 feet wide and use only clean wood or charcoal (fire must always be attended until fully out).  WPDH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Fairview Fire District honored firefighters at an awards dinner with local, state, and Dutchess County officials. The district outlined plans to upgrade its Violet Avenue firehouse, add a new fire engine within six months, and named Tyler Hilwein as Firefighter of the Year.  Mid Hudson News
  • Peekskill PD’s K9 Bones and Officer Jon Saintiche won top honors at Newburgh’s USPCA Region 7 Explosive Detector Trials on March 19-20 and now head to nationals in Atlantic City starting May 3. Their past heroic work highlights their skill (as seen in a 2022 missing person rescue).  WRRV

  • The Original Mickey's Igloo (416 East Chester Street) in Kingston reopened today and is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. It previews a 2026 menu with 25 ice cream flavors, sundaes, milkshakes, and food items including burgers and wraps.  WPDH
