EDUCATION NEWS

  • New York lawmakers propose that schools add Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as mandatory holidays. Districts with over 50,000 residents must close while smaller districts may opt in, potentially changing school calendars across the Hudson Valley.  Hudson Valley Post

  • Assemblymember Deborah Glick has proposed the Dark Skies Protection Act that will require shielded outdoor lights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Jan. 1, 2028 (holiday and emergency lighting remain exempt) so residents can see clearer night skies.  Poughkeepsie Journal
