ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers across New York are paying more for gas as prices have climbed to about $3.16 per gallon, up 9 to 10 cents overnight, according to AAA. Experts warn that rising crude oil prices and Middle Eastern tensions may push costs another 20 to 30 cents soon.  WPDH
  • State officials warn that the climate law may cause gas prices to jump over two dollars per gallon over the next five years+households could face extra energy costs, prompting Gov. Hochul to explore an all-of-the-above energy strategy.  WRRV
  • Gas prices in New York rose for the second straight week, with regular fuel averaging $3.35 per gallon on Monday, up from $2.90 last week, according to the Energy Information Administration. The average price remains lower than the national rate of $3.50 but marks a 47-cent rise from last month.  Poughkeepsie Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New York State will enforce its spring burn ban starting Monday, March 16 until May 14 to prevent wildfires. The ban prohibits open burning of brush, trash, and other materials but allows small campfires and ceremonial bonfires (provided they meet size requirements).  1450 WKIP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Defense analysts say several sites in the Hudson Valley and Capital Region, including the U.S. Military Academy and Stewart Air National Guard Base, may be high-priority targets if a nuclear conflict were to occur - these models are planning scenarios rather than predictions of future events.  WPDH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents of Dutchess and Putnam counties can apply for free PFAS testing today through a pilot program announced by Governor Hochul to address PFAS in private wells. Homeowners with levels exceeding the state standard may receive up to $10,000 for public water connections or $5,000 for a treatment system.  1450 WKIP
