CULTURE NEWS

  • John Conway, Sullivan County historian and executive director of the Delaware Company, announced that Fort Delaware Museum's programming will focus on the Revolutionary War's impact on local communities in Monticello. The exhibit will show how the conflict split neighbors into Loyalist and Patriot sides.  Mid Hudson News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Red Hook Rotary Foundation is offering 2026 scholarships to graduating seniors in the Red Hook, Pine Plains (and Germantown) districts who plan to attend accredited schools or trade programs; forms are available from high school guidance offices and online, and completed applications must be mailed by Wednesday, Apr. 8.  Mid Hudson News
  • SUNY Orange from Middletown won the prestigious 2026 Bellwether Award for its math placement redesign, which boosted student progress. The award was announced this week at the Community College Futures Assembly in San Antonio.  Mid Hudson News
  • A proposed NYS bill (SB S6858) would require schools to provide a 30-minute outdoor recess for grades K-5 when school days exceed five hours. Lawmakers say extra play time helps kids focus and local families in Dutchess County could see changes soon.  Hudson Valley Post

  • Supermarkets around town are recalling food items after customers reported finding metal and glass fragments; Aldi is recalling Bremer-branded meatballs (best-by Oct. 30) and Trader Joe’s has recalled chicken fried rice products, so shoppers should return these items for a refund.  WPDH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spackenkill boys basketball seniors shared their excitement in a highlight video after winning the MHAL Championship over Red Hook — the clip shows their team spirit and hard work on the court.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Wyatt Boice capped his undefeated season with a 4-2 win in the Division I state wrestling final at Minisink Valley after fighting through a painful knee injury. His win secured a sixth straight state title for his school.  Mid Hudson News
  • At the New York Armory on Feb. 28, the Section 9 girls indoor track and field state qualifier saw several meet records broken (including a 55-meter record by Dayna Scott from Valley Central) and top finishers advanced to state.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Jillian Kendrick of Valley Central led Section 9 gymnasts at state championships in Utica on Saturday, Feb. 28—she posted a 34.075 all-around score and placed on uneven bars and balance beam.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • At the Section 9 boys indoor qualifier on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the New York Armory, seniors Maximillian Wickrath and Nathaniel Diemoz broke records in the 55 meters and 1,000 meters while Tri-Valley junior Kane Poje set weight throw record & became double winner.
