ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A heavy fire engulfed the second floor and attic of a home at 122 South Cherry Street on Feb. 17, leaving the family displaced with no injuries and prompting a daughter to start a GoFundMe (goal: $1,600).  Hudson Valley Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Orange-Ulster BOCES is celebrating Career and Technical Education Month in Goshen this February to showcase programs that give students hands-on training in fields such as digital cinema and culinary. In the coming weeks, hundreds of students will tour the campuses to explore career pathways.  Mid Hudson News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for over 20 counties as a powerful blizzard is forecast to hit with heavy snow and strong winds. The National Guard will be activated today + travel restrictions will take effect at 4 p.m.  Poughkeepsie Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The New York State Department of Health reported a 16% rise in flu cases last week, with Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties recording the highest numbers. Health experts advised residents to get a flu shot if they have not yet been vaccinated this season.  WRRV

  • Former Wallkill star guard Zoe Mesuch returned to the Hudson Valley on Saturday by scoring 14 points for Navy in a 54-51 comeback win over Army at Christl Arena — she earned her third straight Patriot League Rookie of the Week award and is now tied for second all-time in rookie honors.  Mid Hudson News
