  • Beacon mourns Happy Valley Arcade Bar co-founder Dan Broderick, who recently passed away. A GoFundMe fundraiser has raised nearly $58,000 to help his wife and two children cover funeral costs and living expenses.  Hudson Valley Post
  • On Friday, Field Hall Foundation awarded $292,500 in winter grants to 14 nonprofits in Putnam, Dutchess and Westchester to support programs for seniors’ safety, health and essential services. The awards fund home repairs, food access and emergency assistance.  Mid Hudson News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visitors learned about George Washington’s life as reenactors performed musket firings & interactive exhibits were held yesterday at Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site in Newburgh to honor his birthday and the nation's history.  Poughkeepsie Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Town-appointed steering committee began planning Dutchess Plaza and nearby properties on Feb. 10. They will hold public meetings and surveys and use a $252,000 grant to support a plan for a 144-acre site north of Route 44 and Burnett Boulevard.  Mid Hudson News
  • Orange County will host the Hudson Valley Regional AI Summit on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. The free event will feature a keynote address and expert panels that will show how AI can improve local services — organizers plan live demonstrations.  Mid Hudson News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Clayton DeClemente, a 2017 Arlington High School graduate, competed in his first Olympics in Milan at age 26 and finished 32nd in the short track 1500-meter race after a late-lap crash. Friends and family gathered at Mahoney's Pub (a local venue) in Poughkeepsie to cheer him on.  Mid Hudson News
  • Warwick Valley High School sophomore Stephan Kitar earned three medals at the U.S. Rowing Indoor National Championship last weekend in Chattanooga, including a gold in the 1-minute event — a strong sign of the program’s growing potential.  Mid Hudson News
