  • Cascarino’s, a family-run restaurant at 121 Hawkins Drive in Montgomery, was voted Best Pizza in the Hudson Valley after weeks of local voting. Residents praised the pizzeria for its pizza, heroes, wings, and homemade sauces.  WPDH

  • After weeks of voting, local listeners crowned Dunkin Donuts as the Hudson Valley's best coffee spot in the Boris Show Battle of the Best contest. The win highlights Dunkin Donuts’ quick service and many locations serving the community.  WPDH

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study shows that local stores now charge about 51% more for classic Valentine's Day gifts compared to 2016, adding roughly $262 to the typical celebration cost. Many residents may face increased costs on chocolates, dinners, and roses this season.  WRRV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Temperatures eased today after a long stretch of bitter cold, but a new storm from the Midwest is forecast to affect travel from Friday through Monday during Valentine’s Day weekend. Residents are advised to prepare for snow, sleet and icy roads as conditions change.  Daily Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, Feb. 7, Gov. Hochul ordered flags to fly at half-staff as a tribute to Charles Hall Jr., a correctional officer who died on duty at Five Points Correctional Facility. Hall, a veteran and key member of the Crisis Intervention Unit, is survived by his wife, Jennifer, daughter Lauren, and son Andrew.  Hudson Valley Post
  • New York legalized Medical Aid in Dying for terminally ill adults with less than six months to live, but the law will take effect in August after a six-month period for regulation development (with safeguards including a 5-day waiting period, mental health evaluation, and independent physician confirmation).  1450 WKIP

HEALTH NEWS

  • In January, Dutchess County Health Department inspected 44 eateries; Texas Roadhouse in Poughkeepsie logged 5 violations (1 critical) while 19 establishments posted flawless marks and 22 still had unresolved past issues.   • The Mid-Hudson men’s lacrosse season began as Army improved to 2-0 after beating Rutgers on Feb. 7 while Marist lost its road opener at Mercer. Coaches from Army, Marist, SUNY New Paltz, and Mount Saint Mary are now preparing for more games through May.  Poughkeepsie Journal
