- ➤ Multiple residents at a luxury apartment complex in the Hudson Valley reported being locked out in dangerous subzero cold on several early morning incidents this week when key-fob systems failed — forcing management to remotely reset the devices. Hudson Valley Post

- ➤ Stop & Shop in Poughkeepsie and other local supermarkets are facing a shortage of ripe bananas as freezing weather halted the natural ripening process (the cold dropped below fifty-three degrees during transport) and suppliers expect new shipments when warmer weather returns. Hudson Valley Post
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ TurboTax fixed an e-filing glitch that was rejecting returns for many customers; the company notified users on Feb. 5 and they can re-file their state taxes starting Feb. 12 (refund amounts may vary). Hudson Valley Post

- ➤ New York State DEC said Hudson River striped bass numbers dropped to 8.27 fish per haul for the third year in a row + warned that anglers may see fewer catchable fish by the 2030s as it joins an interstate group to plan fishery management. Hudson Valley Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A TRIP report finds New York drivers pay over $40 billion extra each year due to rough roads and aging bridges, with drivers in the Poughkeepsie area facing an extra $612 annually. The report calls for more state spending to repair over 70% of state-maintained roads. Poughkeepsie Journal
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Hudson Valley Hospice staff were featured on NBC's Today Show this week for taking care of host Sheinelle Jones' husband (who died last May from brain cancer) and showing caring support in Poughkeepsie. 1450 WKIP
- ➤ In (Aug. 2025) at a fire on Mountain View Road, Rombout Assistant Fire Chief John Lucariello collapsed and was revived by quick responders; he was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, recovered, and later celebrated with a tribute by his firefighting team. Hudson Valley Post
