  • Environmental and community groups released data showing that gas powered landscaping equipment emits high levels of greenhouse gases and noise that can harm hearing.   • Members of the Benjamin A. Gilman Lodge honored former Congressman Gilman at West Point, where his family, friends and fellow citizens recalled his 30-year public service, wartime valor (earning the Distinguished Flying Cross) and the legacy of the Gilman Scholarship program.  Mid Hudson News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts say residents should not leave phones, music instruments, drinks, glasses, eggs, canned foods and medicine in their cars when temperatures drop below freezing. They warn that the cold can break or burst these items, so keeping them indoors today is safer.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Health experts warn that snow shoveling can be dangerous for residents 45+ with heart or bone issues. The American Heart Association recommends taking breaks, using snowblowers, or asking a healthier neighbor to clear snow to reduce strain.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • Navy freshman Zoe Mesuch scored 17 points, the most on the team, as the Midshipmen beat Army 60-44 on Saturday in Annapolis. The Wallkill graduate, honored as Patriot League Rookie of the Week, has started all 18 games this season.  Mid Hudson News
  • Pine Bush grad Antonia Licardi won three gold medals for Mount Saint Mary College at Skyline swim championships held last weekend at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. She also set school records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.  Poughkeepsie Journal
