ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lottery officials said a top-prize TAKE 5 ticket valued at $26,883 was sold at Beacon Quick Mart (361 Main St.) for the Jan. 11 drawing in Beacon. Winners have up to one year to claim prizes as drawings are held twice daily at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.  Daily Voice
  • Central Hudson has launched its Enhanced Energy Affordability Program to offer fixed monthly bill discounts for low-income and moderate-income households over a two-year pilot period; eligible customers can apply online or by calling 877-400-2501.  1450 WKIP

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Hochul announced a $60 million pilot program in Dutchess County to create up to 1,000 childcare spots for children ages 0-3 in 2027. Poughkeepsie officials say the effort will boost workforce participation and support county-led initiatives — a key step in expanding accessible, quality care.  WPDH
  • Poughkeepsie City School District has named Mike Tuttle as Interim Assistant Superintendent of Business after Margarita Lekaj and Treasurer Deborah Long were removed amid payroll issues last week. Tuttle, formerly with Middletown Schools, brings over 30 years of experience and will earn $200,000 per year.  1450 WKIP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Central Hudson collected sediment samples from the Hudson River—taken in 2025—for coal tar contamination and plans a river bottom survey as shared by the Hudson 7 on Thursday. The utility will develop a remediation plan and meet with DEC if warming water mobilizes the coal tar.  Mid Hudson News
  • The Wallkill Valley Land Trust secured 108 acres on Shawangunk Ridge, protecting cliffs, forests, wetlands & scenic views including a section of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. This conservation easement adds to its more than 3,000 acres of protected land.  Mid Hudson News

  • The Matthews family in Glenham is preparing for their autistic son's final days as his condition worsens, and a GoFundMe fundraiser has raised $10,330 (as of Jan. 15) to help with rising care costs.  Daily Voice

  • Construction is underway at Black Creek Barns in Esopus, where Emerson Hospitality is transforming a 153-acre historic estate along Route 9 into a 70-room luxury resort—featuring a restaurant, cafe, pool, event space and wellness center. The project will open in late 2027.  Times Union
