  • GameStop will close several Hudson Valley stores, including locations in Poughkeepsie, Monticello and Kingston at the Hudson Valley Mall, in early 2026 due to a shift in consumer habits and a struggling brick-and-mortar model.  Hudson Valley Post
  • Stop & Shop is offering free bagels at all 360 locations in the Northeast for National Bagel Day; shoppers must check in at a Savings Station kiosk to claim one bagel per household while supplies last, with the offer ending Thursday, Jan. 15.  Daily Voice
  • Ross Dress for Less will open a 23,000 sqft off-price retail store at Plaza 44 in Poughkeepsie before the end of 2026 (with lease negotiations led by RIPCO Real Estate and Katz and Associates), marking a new chapter for the former Big Lots site.  WRRV

  • Bard College in Dutchess County was named one of the nation's top five beautiful campuses by Travel + Leisure Magazine on Jan. 12. The campus is noted for its historic Montgomery Place estate and scenic riverside views.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • A federal judge denied Ali Faqirzada’s petition for release today, keeping the Afghan refugee detained at Newark’s Delaney Hall since Oct. 14. The Bard College student (Ulster County resident) has sparked community support with rallies and fundraisers as his legal team appeals the ruling.  Times Union
