- ➤ The DEC has announced an info session for the unit management plan for Grape Hollow State Forest on Jan. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Recreation Center — locals are invited to offer input on how the forest should be managed for the next 10 years. Mid Hudson News

- ➤ New York State Police retired K9 Raya on Jan. 1 after eight years with Dutchess County's Troop K Bomb Disposal Unit. She worked with Trooper Brennan P. Keeler while upholding Trooper Raymond J. Chippendale's legacy. Daily Voice
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Flu cases surged in the Hudson Valley with Westchester County recording 3,026 cases for the week ending Dec. 27 (the state tallied 239,000 cases since October) and officials urged residents to get vaccinated (shots are available at pharmacies and clinics). 1450 WKIP
- ➤ Dutchess County health inspections in December found five restaurants had flawless scores, five had critical violations, and four had unfixed issues from previous checks. Inspectors noted problems with food temperatures and sanitation that require immediate correction in establishments across the area. Poughkeepsie Journal

- ➤ Thirty Section 9 small school football players were named all-state by the New York Sportswriters Association from Class B, C, D and eight-man leagues.
