  • Officials warned residents after a space heater caused a fire at the historic Crumwold Estate in Hyde Park on Jan. 1 that displaced several families and led fire marshals to remind locals to keep flammable items three feet away (3-Foot Rule) from heaters.  Hudson Valley Post

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Urban Air Adventure Park has signed a lease to open its 36,000 sqft indoor facility in Wappingers Falls late 2026. The park will offer adventure slides + an indoor zipline and climbing walls while providing 65 local jobs.  Hudson Valley Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • State Health Commissioner McDonald said New York will not follow the new CDC vaccine guidelines for childhood shots despite federal calls to reduce vaccines — school immunization rules will remain unchanged. The decision comes amid rising flu and measles cases.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Health officials confirm New York set a record for flu-related doctor visits, and they warn the worst of the season is yet to come. They urge residents on January 8 to get flu shots and practice good hygiene as cases surge ahead of a late January peak.  Hudson Valley Post

  • Local eateries are set to enrich the dining scene in the mid-Hudson Valley this year. Fruition Chocolate will hold a grand opening in Eastdale on Feb. 1, Lola’s Cafe is expanding nearby, and The Grand Concourse plus Chick-fil-A are scheduled for later in 2026.  Poughkeepsie Journal

  • Varsity 845 has opened online voting for its girls basketball Players of the Week covering Dec. 29-Jan. 4 with votes accepted until 11 p.m. Sat, Jan. 11; the poll features athletes from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties and winners will be announced on Twitter.  Poughkeepsie Journal
  • Eldred quarterback Koen McGill & tight end/defensive lineman James Deyermond were named first-team all-state by the New York State Sportswriters Association after powering Eldred’s six-game winning streak and run to the state championship game.
