About this event
Please join special guest and botanist Heather Liljengren to learn about native plants, ecotypes, and how to collect seeds to establish more wildlife-friendly plants on your property. Guided by Heather’s deep knowledge of native plant restoration, attendees will learn how to recognize seed maturity, collect seed responsibly and effectively, and clean and prepare native seeds for successful planting. Each person will leave with seeds that they collect themselves at Great Hollow and are ready to plant on their own property.
Heather Liljengren has nearly 20 years of experience in native seed collection, field botany, and ecological restoration across New England and the Mid-Atlantic. She spent more than a decade as a supervising seed collector and field taxonomist for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, managing the seed bank and seed collection program for restoration projects throughout the city. Now based in Washington, Connecticut, Heather is the founder of Local Land Consulting LLC , where she works with land trusts, farmers, landscape design firms, and homeowners to restore and steward native plant communities.
