Community Reception: Making an Impression

About this event

Over the course of six weeks, New Paltz Middle School students explored a range of contemporary printmaking techniques under the guidance of Sophia Bon, printmaker and arts educator.

Students learned about the histories of these processes while experimenting with new and unconventional materials, techniques, and approaches to making.

The work presented here includes not only finished pieces, but also an archive of students’ experimentation with process and materials, both individually and collaboratively.

By emphasizing exploration over a predetermined outcome, students were encouraged to take creative risks, embrace unexpected results, and discover new possibilities through the act of making. This process-driven approach reflects the depth and breadth of their experimentation throughout the program.
