About this event
Grab a glass of wine and discover the art of botanical drawing!
Inspired by Jane Colden, one of America’s earliest botanists from the Hudson Valley, this relaxed, hands-on workshop invites you to slow down, look closely, and draw plants from observation. We’ll experiment with traditional oak gall ink, a historic archival ink used by artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and in important documents including the Declaration of Independence. Along the way, we’ll learn a little about Jane Colden and the history of botanical illustration while creating our own beautiful botanical studies. You’ll create a collection of 4–6 botanical drawings that can be turned into cards, given as gifts, or framed and hung on your wall. No drawing experience necessary—just bring your curiosity, enjoy a sip, and have fun discovering the garden through ink!
